Zhang Peng

I ran across the work of Zhang Peng today. I thought it was very worthy of showing... Check it out.

This is what he has to say about his work; "In a broad sense, all of my works demonstrate a kind of oppression. If conditions allow, parents plan a future that they think will be good for their children. If they are not wealthy enough, they hope their children will have a skill and then they force them to develop it. As children grow up, their character is distorted by the inappropriate pressure of their parents and their schools. The appearances of my figures drift between real people and dolls. While the image is aesthetic, I also want to reinforce the strong sense of distortion."

Photoshop Tutorial

Go from this Image:

To this image:

In only four easy steps.

First, open up the image in Photoshop that you would like to work with. Then, adjust the image saturation to -70. Your image should now look similar to this:

Now create a new layer, and choose the "soft light" blending mode. While on this layer, paint in whatever colors you would like. Here are the colors I picked:

Making sure that your new layer is still selected, go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur. A new box will pop up. Make the radius 90 pixels.

WALA! You did it..... congrats.

Don't forget to save your file, and then go and show it off to all your friends ;)! Man, you are SUCH a pro!

The festival of Holi is celebrated on the day after the full moon in early March every year.
It is also called the Festival of Colours.
On this day people Throw colors at each other.
This festival occurs at the onset of spring.

So I was on Stumble Upon and ran into the work of Lawrence Yang. I was impressed with what I saw. Here are some peices that he made for a game themed show:

Here are some non-game themed works:

Go check out his blog if you get a chance. Honestly, I was sort of stunned at how artful he was able to make those first paintings when the theme was games! **applause!**

The Beauty of the Toy Camera

Have you heard of toy cameras? If not, I am more than happy to introduce you. There are many different kinds of toy cameras; the Holga, the Diana + and so on... what makes it "toy" is that the camera body is totally plastic, and only accepts film. This means that there will probably be light leaks and unpredictable results in your pictures. To some, this probably sounds like a horrifying nightmare! But to others, it is an extremem joy to work with. Take for example, these photos:

Don't those just look amazing? I found those pictures here.

If you are wandering how to get these effects and think that it might be just a little too complicated for you, think again! The entire process is (personally) very freeing, and loads of fun! Anyone can do it... and to prove it, I will show you some of my own toy camera pictures:

Let me give you some tips to start it off:
Multiple exposures!!!!
Long exposures!!!
Pick interesting and colorful subjects to shoot, and there you have it! Go ahead and give it a whirl!!!
The first couple of pictures, the photographer also used a colored flash! Throw that in too, and get ready for some NEAT photos!

...I got the rest of the photos from here.
